The Data Warrior

Changing the world, one data model at a time. How can I help you?

So you want to be a Presenter? Abstract selections for 2015 are open!

You say you want to present and share your knowledge with the world (or at least your little corner of the world)…

Your boss says there is no $$$ to pay for any technical conferences…

You want to be a rock star and have adoring fans “LIKE” your blog or web site…

Have I got a deal for you!

All you have to do is write some awe inspiring abstract with a catchy, SEO’d title and you are on your way to geek super-stardom.

Well, assuming the committee likes what you have to say and it is highly relevant to the target audience.

Want to give it a go? Then here are my two favorite Oracle user conferences that you MUST submit too, and if you are a Data Vault kind of person, one more to try for.

Rocky Mountain Oracle Users Group Training Days 2015

Held in Denver, Colorado in the middle of ski season, this one is hard to beat for so many reasons…

In 2015 it will run from February 17-19 at the Colorado Convention Center.

Abstract submissions are open and run until October 2, 2014. So get a move on!

Submit here: http://www.rmoug.org/training/2015-abstract-submission/

ODTUG KScope15

Also deemed a top Oracle tech event with huge Oracle ACE and ACE Director presence (like RMOUG). This year the event will be in the warm environs of Hollywood, Florida from June 21-25, 2015.

Now the catch here is that you have to be a member to submit an abstract. You are a member already, right?

If not, join today! They do have a FREE Associate member class which is good enough to submit.

But the membership fee is only $99 a year, so why not be a full member? Just say’n…

Anyway you can submit an abstract here: http://www.odtug.com/e/sx/in/eid=17

2nd Annual World Wide Data Vault Consortium

If you are an uber Data Vault geek, we want you to present and tell us your story!

The 2015 event will be held May 28-30 and the lovely Trapp Family Lodge near Stowe,Vermont (yes THAT Trapp Family)

If you don’t want to present then just attend. Registration is also open: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/wwdvc-world-wide-data-vault-consortium-2015-registration-12073703773

Dan is still accepting session proposals. There are only a few slots left! Apply NOW.

Oracle 12c Release 1 is here!

After much anticipation the new Release 1 of Oracle 12c (12.1.0.2) is finally available!

Get it here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/overview/index.html

What does this mean:

Oracle’s ground breaking In Memory Database is now available!

As they say…this is BIG. Get more details about In Memory here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/in-memory/overview/index.html

I am very excited about the possibilities of what we can do with this technology. It will be a game changer especially for those of us trying to do agile data warehousing and business intelligence.

Now we can talk about having big data in memory – quickly accessible so it can be used.

Anyway, it is a big day in Oracle-land.

Now if I can just get my client to upgrade….

Cheers.

OUGF Harmony 2014, #OUGF14

I had a great time at my very first Oracle User Group event in Finland. Many great sessions and speakers, excellent food (including lovely salmon soup and reindeer burgers!), lots of good conversation and time with friends old and new.

Several highlights for me were meeting and speaking with one of the pioneers of relational theory, CJ Date, and getting to see my good friend Dan Linstedt in action talking about Big Data and Data Vault 2.0.

It was a very worthwhile trip even if it is a long way from Houston.

Thank you very much to Heli and the staff of OUGF for the warm welcome and and keeping me fed! Hopefully I can go again sometime and enjoy some more Finnish hospitality.

And now – please read Heli’s post about the conference, complete with pictures!

I am Finnish and this is the end (Björn Rost).

The OUGF Harmony 2014 has ended. Sad:( It was such a fun event. I already miss all our great speakers and attendees….

We started on Wednesday with the speakers’ dinner in a Viking restaurant Harald. There was plenty of food and plenty of drinks….and plenty of VIKINGS….

The conference officially started on Thursday morning. The busses were waiting for speakers and attendees in the centre of Helsinki to drive them to the Finnish forest. The conference venue is called Haltia in a middle of a nature park of Nuuksio.

The content of the conference was amazing! We had THE C.J. Date explaining temporal data…

And so many other excellent speakers. The audience was really listening…

The speaker of the first day was voted to be James Morle with his excellent keynote presentation. I am very sorry if you missed it:(…

Get thee to KScope14 in Seattle!

Once again it is that time of year when the who’s-who of Oracle development geekdom gather for their annual festival of education and networking.

Yes it is time for ODTUG’s annual event KScope14 to be held in Seattle,Washington from June 22nd – 26th. As always this is the not-to-be-missed independent Oracle user conference for users by users. This year includes 52 Oracle ACEs and ACE Directors, plus Oracle Corp Product Managers, and a host of other great speakers. Check out the entire list here.

As always there will be ample opportunity to network with the presenters and other attendees including breakfast with the ACEs and the popular Lunch and Learn panel discussions.

If you can make it to Seattle early, lend a helping hand and participate in the Annual KScope Community Service Day. This is the only event of its kind where the user community gathers to give back to the host city. This is now an annual tradition for ODTUG going back to helping in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Then there is the ever popular Special Event on Wednesday night. This year we will visit the world renowned Experience Music Project. (You do not want to miss this!)

As in past years, I will be giving several presentations myself, and running my now-annual Morning Chi Gung classes for those that want to start the day with this ancient Chinese health practice. I will holding these sessions each morning (Sunday – Thursday) at 7 AM.

If you need more convincing, check out ODTUG President Monty’s interview with Oracle Database Insider.

Ready now? Okay, go register here  and you can still get the early discount rate!

See you in Seattle!

My buddy, Gurcan, the ODI Guru, did a great summary of the upcoming OUGF conference. I will be speaking there too about using Oracle Data Modeler, Data Vault, and Agile Data Warehousing.

I am looking forward to seeing Gurcan, Heli, and all my fellow Oracle ACEs in Helsinki. And looking forward to my first trip to Finland.

Come join the fun and learning this June.

As some of you know, I will be attending to OUGF (Oracle User Group Finland) between 5-6th of June. Thanks to everybody who is in charge of paper selections especially Heli Helskyaho for the organization and Ann Sjökvist for the administration of the event.
