Alert would-be Oracle Warriors: Chi Gung in San Antonio

As many of you now by now I will be presenting several sessions at the ODTUG annual conference, KScope, this coming June in San Antonio, Texas.

What you may not know is that I will also be conducting 30-minute Chi Gung sessions in the morning before the events of the day start as part of the KScope12 Fun Factor activities.

Why you may ask?

In short, because even geeks need to exercise to live long (and prosper).

Plus this type of moving meditation is just what the doctor ordered to help you de-stress and (mentally) get away from your daily IT routine. (I have written a bit more on this here and here)

So as some motivation for you to join me doing Chi Gung (in the cool part of the day!) check out this video of a guy Exercising Around the World.

At KScope11 in Long Beach, we did it everyday and had at least 20 people each morning. It was a lot of fun.

Oracle User Groups: Are you a member?

I love user groups.

Getting introduced and involved in them has made a huge difference in my career. If it was not for all the people I have met in the last 22+ years, my career, and life, would have been very different.

I have met hundreds (maybe thousands) of amazing people both from within Oracle Corp and outside. Many of them became, and remain, my friends. Which is why we all love to get together several times a year at various user group and industry events to catch up, exchange wars stories, and learn new things.

Right now, I am starting to prepare for one of my favorites – ODTUG KScope. I will be there presenting in June and  running my popular Morning Chi Gung class for the 2nd year in a row.

If you have not registered, get to it! Rooms are going fast and you want to be sure to stay at the conference resort (yes – resort, not hotel!).

Ready or Not – It’s Time to Submit an Abstract for Oracle Open World 2012

Yup, it sneaks up on you pretty fast.

Seems like only a few weeks ago I was in San Francisco at OOW 2011, and now it is already time to think about what to present in September.

This year, Oracle OpenWorld will take place September 30-October 5 at the Moscone Center, San Francisco.

If you are ready to go, the call for papers is here.

Important Date:

The Call for Papers will close at 11:59 p.m. PDT on Monday, April 9.

Not a lot of time to submit.

Again this year I am the OOW Content Coordinator for the Oracle Development Tools User Group (ODTUG), so I will be one of the people reviewing your submission.

If you are an ODTUG member and want to represent ODTUG at OOW 2012, this is your chance! On the abstract submission form, there are two user group related questions you need to answer.

First, be sure to indicate that you are a member of a user group.

Second indicate that you belong to or are submitting on behalf of Oracle Development Tools User Group. 

If you do not indicate ODTUG, we (well, me and a few others) will not be able to see your abstract or review it.

I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to share your knowledge, experiences, and solutions with other developers. I look forward to reviewing the abstracts submitted by the ODTUG experts.

Key Point: If your abstract is accepted, you will receive a complimentary registration to Oracle OpenWorld (worth over $2,000 ).

Even if you do not want to present, you can learn more about OpenWorld here.

So start writing that abstract and submit before April 9th.

Ready for a Rocky Mountain High?

Got the mid winter blues?

Ready for some bright sunshine and fresh mountain air? Maybe some snow?

The wait is almost over! RMOUG Training Days 2012, February 14 – 16, is only 14 days away! That’s right, only a few days until the biggest, and the best regional Oracle users group conference kicks off! But why wait until the last minute?

You still have a few days to take advantage of the lower Standard Registration rates. Register by February 9 to receive the lower rate.

Data Warehouse Performance

This session brings together four experts in performance and data warehousing. All are Oracle ACEs, two are members of the OakTable, and together they represent over ninety years of experience with Oracle. All of the ideas and techniques presented can be implemented with minimal additional hardware and most with a manageable effort. The session will start with some hints and tips that can be used on existing data warehouses and progress to a method of getting performance when the CBO does not recognize a star schema. The session will present partitioning strategies to increase scaling, and finally take a glimpse at some of the benefits of relatively new, but growing, database architecture. The day will be wrapped up with a Q & A with all symposium presenters.

So don’t delay, make your plans today!

And maybe get some skiing in?
