Quote of the Day: We cannot direct the wind…

We cannot direct the wind…

But we can adjust the sails!

Are you heading where you want to, or letting the wind blow you about?

Talk the helm of your life and set a course.

Happy Monday!

P.S. It is almost time for the 2nd Annual World Wide Data Vault Consortium (WWDVC) in lovely Stowe, Vermont! If you do DV or want to learn more about DV, this is THE place to do it. Cost is CRAZY LOW for the content and contacts you will make. There are only a few seats left so sail on over and register at http://wwdvc.com/ before they sell out.

An Irish Blessing (for my friends at #OUG_IRE)

Maybe a day or so late (for St Patrick’s Day) but a bunch of my Oracle pals (#ACEs and #ACEDs) are all over in Dublin at an Oracle User Group event (#oug_ire on Twitter) so this seemed appropriate. Looks like they are having a good event (based on the tweets), with a fun evening to boot.

This is an old, traditional blessing. I found it in a box of papers while doing some spring cleaning yesterday.

For all my friends in or visiting Ireland this week:

May your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that grow,
And may trouble avoid you wherever you go.
May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be at your back,
May the sun shine down upon your face,
And the rain fall soft upon your fields,
Until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of his hand.

See y’all in Florida at #KScope15

Are you ready to learn something new in 2015?

We all know the saying:

When the student is ready, the teacher will appear

My advice is to empty your cup, daily, so that when the teacher appears you will recognize them.

Unless we are humble in our hearts and in our spirit, we are not open to new things and to learning. The teacher we need may be standing right in front of us the entire time, and yet we may miss the opportunity to learn from them because we are not open to the possibility that they may have something to teach us.

Always be ready to learn.

Happy New Year!

Data Warrior 2014 in Review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for my blog. Not as many posts as 2013 (I was way busy), but sure got a lot more traffic than I realized!

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 58,000 times in 2014. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 21 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Say “Big Data” One More Time (I dare you!)

This is quick. Saw it on Twitter this morning and it is just too funny to not share:

Have a great day!
