Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler 17.4

So for your last technical task of the year, as Heli recommends, go get the latest version of Oracle SQL Dev Data Modeler. Looks like a bunch of important fixes (including some “annoying behavior”).

Cheers!

This is a version I have been waiting: so many important bug fixes! I downloaded it immediatelly the evening it was available and finished one of my projects using it.

If you have not downloaded it yet, do it today: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/datamodeler/downloads/index.html

Why did I waited for it? Because of, for instance, these bug fixes:

27245333 – IMPORT OF DDL AS ORACLE 12CR2 DOESN’T RECOGNIZE DATA TYPES
27182476 – SQL SERVER 2012 DDL GENERATION FAILS WITH CLASS CAST EXCEPTION
26985782 – STANDARD REPORT – COLUMN DATA TYPE IS NOT INCLUDED WHEN COLLECTION
27040952 – DESIGN PROPERTIES DIALOG DOESN’T WORK
26988362 – IMPORTING LEGACY PHYSICAL MODEL RESULTS IN TABLE ITEMS LISTED RED IN HIERARCHY
27041167 – REVERSE CLAUSE FOR INDEX IS NOT PROCESSED DURING IMPORT FROM DATABASE
26918584 – SYNC TO DB CANNOT RECOGNIZE TABLES WHEN PROXY USER IS USED
26919656 – PROBLEMS WHEN EDITING UDP FOR ATTRIBUTES IN ENTITY DIALOG

OOW is just around the corner

Yes it is indeed time for Oracle Open World. Unfortunately I will not be there speaking myself this year, but do not despair my friends, there is still plenty of goodness from the community such as these talks from my good friend Heli. She is coming all the way from Helsinki, Finland to share her knowledge. Go to one of her talks and tell her The Data Warrior sent you!

HeliFromFinland

I cannot believe how fast time flies! It has been an exceptionally busy year and that is the reason I have not had time to write blog posts either. I have been speaking in amazing events like BIWA Summit, APEX Connect, Riga DevDays 2017, OTNEMEA Tour in Baku and in Madrid, BGOUG, E4, KScope17, Oracle Code Bengaluru, the first ever APEX Day in Finland, Oracle Code Seoul, POUG, and Tajikistan TechDay. Next on my list is Oracle OpenWorld. As always it will be a busy week.

I will fly to San Francisco on Thursday to attend the ACE Director briefing on Friday at the Oracle HQ. I will have three talks:

And I will also have two short talks:

  • one at the EOUC trackEOUC.jpg
  • and another one at the WIT Lightning Storm sessionWIT

I will have several meetings, swimming, running and chocolate tasking

#SQLDevModeler Tip: From Domain to Database… A Comment Conundrum

Great tip on creating a custom transformation script in SQL Developer Data Modeler (SDDM) from the awesome David Schleis:

Recently on the Data Modeler Forum, I came across this question:

Is it possible to mirror domain comments, from Domain Administration into attribute “Comments in RDBMS”?  Would like to mirror these to the ddl so they can be then available in column comments in the database.

I knew that one of the example transformation scripts provided with Data Modeler copies the column “Comments” property to “Comments in RDBMS”, so I thought I would point this out to the questioner, and that would be that.  But….

New Version of SQL Developer Data Modeler is available!

It is now version 17.2!

Don’t worry, you have not missed 13+ releases!

A new versioning number system has been put in place and applies to both SQL Developer and SQL Developer Data Modeler (SDDM). A new version will come out about four times a year and the version number is created using the last two digits of the year and the number of the quarter.

So version 17.2 = Q2 2017

Data Modeler

You can get the newest version here:

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/datamodeler/overview/index.html

SQL Developer

There is also a new version (17.2) for this tool as well. Get it here:
